The Government of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, collaborates with the United Nations Barbados and Eastern Caribbean, in celebration of United Nations (UN), Day, which is observed annually on October 24th. UN Day has been celebrated since 1948 and marks the anniversary of the entry into force of the UN Charter in 1945.
To commemorate the UN’s 76th milestone, and to symbolize the ongoing partnership between Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and the UN, the Government is co-ordinating two events as follows:
- A Flag Raising Ceremony to commence at 8:30 a.m. instead of 9:00 a.m. on Friday, 29th October, 2021, at the Financial Complex, Kingstown.
- A tree planting ceremony to highlight Action on Climate, and the upcoming COP26 at the Rabacca Village to be held also on Friday, 29th October at 11:30 a.m. The Tree planting will be done by Hon. Saboto Caesar, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.
Both events will be attended by Senior Government officials as well as UN representatives. The Honourable Prime Minister, Dr. Ralph Gonsalves, and UN Resident Coordinator, Didier Trebucq, will deliver remarks at the Flag raising ceremony, which also marks our 41st anniversary of membership in the UN, having joined on 16th September 1980.
The flag-raising ceremony will be livestreamed via VC3, and members of the public are invited to view the event live on VC3 Facebook page: @vincycultureconnectionchannel or via the VC3 local TV Channel or its YouTube channel at: VC3TV.
UN Day will also be observed in Barbados and across select OECS countries.
